Printed in Washington, not shipped in from somewhere else

Every banner is printed on our Roland eco-solvent printer in Washington, then trimmed, hemmed and eyeleted in the same building. You’re not ordering from a website that passes the job to a warehouse at the other end of the country. If something needs checking, you ring us and talk to the person running the printer.

That matters most when a job is a bit awkward: an odd size, a tight deadline, artwork that isn’t quite right. We’d rather sort it before it prints than explain it afterwards.

What you get as standard

  • 440gsm PVC. Heavy-duty banner material that’s waterproof and made to live outside.
  • Full-colour print with eco-solvent inks made for outdoor use.
  • Hemmed edges, so the banner holds its shape and the eyelets have something solid to pull against.
  • Eyelets in every corner and roughly every 500mm along the edges, ready for cable ties, bungee cords or rope. Pole pockets instead, if it’s going on scaffolding.
  • A proof to approve before anything is printed. Nothing goes on the printer until you’ve said yes to the layout, the size and the price.

What people use them for

We print banners for businesses, trades, clubs and events across Washington, Sunderland, Gateshead, Newcastle and the rest of the North East. The usual jobs:

  • Shop and unit fronts, either while a permanent sign is being made or instead of one.
  • Building sites, scaffolding, site fencing and hoardings, with the contractor’s name and number.
  • Sports clubs: pitch-side sponsor boards and club banners.
  • Events, fairs, fundraisers and school fêtes.
  • “Now open”, “now hiring”, “sale on” and “to let” banners that need to go up this week, not next month.

Getting the size right

Measure the space where the banner will hang, then take a few centimetres off each side. That leaves room to pull it tight without the eyelets straining. If it’s going on fencing, check where the posts are so the fixings land somewhere solid.

Our banner rolls are 1.2 metres wide, so 1.2m is the tallest banner we make in one piece. The length is up to you, and it’s priced in 1.2m steps. If you need something shorter than 1.2m, send the size and we’ll price it.

Think about how far away people will be when they read it. A common rule of thumb is 2.5cm of letter height for every 3 metres of reading distance. A banner on a main road gets a couple of seconds from passing drivers, so a name, one line and a phone number usually do more than a paragraph. If you’re not sure, send us the wording and we’ll tell you honestly what will read and what won’t.

Putting it up and looking after it

Tie it through every eyelet, not just the corners, and pull it evenly tight. A loose banner flaps, and flapping is what wears one out. Cable ties are fine on fencing. Bungee cords give a little in strong wind, which takes some strain off the eyelets in exposed spots.

When it comes down, let it dry, then roll it with the printed side facing out rather than folding it. Folds leave creases in PVC that don’t come back out. Stored like that, a banner for a yearly event is ready to go up again next time.

Banner prices

Our standard banners are 1.2 metres tall, and the price goes up in 1.2m lengths. Every banner is hemmed and eyeleted, and there’s no VAT to add.

Finishing

Hems
Every edge is hemmed as standard. It strengthens the banner where the eyelets pull on it, which is where cheap banners tend to give up first.
Eyelets
In every corner and roughly every 500mm along each edge as standard. If you need them somewhere specific, for example to match an existing frame or fixing points, tell us when you order.
Pole pockets
A sleeve along the top or bottom edge that slides over a pole, pipe or scaffold tube, instead of eyelets. Good for scaffolding, indoor displays and backdrops. Ask for them when you order.
Design
Free on orders over £100. On smaller jobs, design time is £25 an hour, and we’ll tell you roughly how long it’ll take before we start.

Banner printing: common questions

How much does a banner cost?

A 1.2m × 1.2m banner is £45 and a 2.4m × 1.2m banner is £80. After that, every extra 1.2m of length adds £40, so 3.6m × 1.2m is £120. That includes hems and eyelets, and there’s no VAT to add. For other heights, send the size and we’ll price it.

How long does a banner take to print?

Currently 3 to 5 working days from when you approve the artwork. If you need it within 24 hours, rush jobs are charged at an extra 25%, as long as the queue allows. Ring first and we’ll tell you honestly whether it’s doable.

Can PVC banners go outside?

Yes. The 440gsm PVC is waterproof and the eco-solvent inks are made for outdoor use. Tie it through every eyelet so it doesn’t flap in the wind, because flapping is what wears a banner out fastest.

My artwork isn’t ready. Can you still print it?

Yes. Send what you have: a logo, a photo, the wording. We’ll build it into a proper layout and send you a proof. Design is free on orders over £100. Under that it’s £25 an hour, and we’ll tell you the likely time before we start.

Do I need to send a print-ready PDF with bleed?

No. We set the file up for print ourselves. If there’s a problem with it, we’ll explain what it is and suggest a fix before anything is printed.

What sizes can you do?

Up to 1.2 metres tall, because that’s the width of the banner rolls we use, in whatever length you need. The price goes up in 1.2m steps: £45 for 1.2m, £80 for 2.4m, then £40 for every extra 1.2m.

Can I collect my banner?

Yes. Collect it from our factory in Washington, Monday to Friday 8am to 4pm or Saturday 8am to 1pm. We’re a working factory rather than a shop, so we’ll let you know when it’s ready. If you need it delivered, we can sort that. Just mention it when you ask for a quote.
